TOURNAMENT RULES
Divisions/Pool allocations will be determined by the amount of team entries.
1. All players must be the correct age as at 31-12-2023
2. All games are to commence at the advertised time.
3. Team lists for the next game are to be checked immediately after the game prior finished
4. No team shall take the court with less than 5 players
5. If a team in is 10 minutes late, this constitutes as a walk over
6. Teams must supply their own warm up ball and the game ball will be selected from the two.
7. max 10 players in any one game
Ball Sizes
• U18 & U16 Boys size 7
• U12 Boys & Girl size 5
• All other grades size 6
7. Teams must supply a competent scorer-time keeper
8. As per BVCC guidelines, all U12 and U14 teams are to play MAN to MAN DEFENCE. All other grades are encouraged to play man to man defence
9. Any protests, grievances or disputes are to be referred to the Tournament Committee within one hour of the completed game.
10. Any player or official reported, will be reported by game officials to the Tournament Committee prior to their next scheduled game for possible sanctioning in accordance with Basketball Victoria.
11. Entries are accepted on first in, first accepted.
12. BVCC heat policy will apply if required
13. The Committees decision on any matter is final.
14. All teams are to supply their own first aid requirements. Ice will be supplied at all venues.
15. The 3-point rule will apply for all grades and teams in Under 12, Under 14, 16 and 18.
16. 3.7m foul line will be used in Under 12 games
17. A mercy rule will apply in all U12 and U14 groups when the difference reaches 20 points. Leading team will retreat to the 3point line in their back court.
18. Shooting on the court is prohibited during time outs and half time of games.
19. Players are only permitted to play in 1 team across the tournament entirety
Ladder Ranking
Ladder points average used.
Teams will be ranked based on their Points Average (which is calculated by the ladder (championship) points divided by the number of games played). If more than one team is on the same Points Average then they will be sorted by highest %
(Points For divided by Points Against, multiplied by 100), then sorted by Points For and then lastly by Team name alphabetical order (if ever required). ‘Byes’ do not factor in the calculation.

Loss – 1pt
Draw – 2pts
Win by Forfeit – 3pts
Loss by Forfeit – 0pts
Win by Disqualification – 3pts
Loss by Disqualification – 0pts
Abandoned Game – 0pts
Cancelled Game – 0pts
Byes – 0pts
Drawn games will remain in preliminary games. If drawn at full time of a grand final game, an extra 5 minutes will be played.
Uniform
1. Each team will nominate its uniform and players will not be permitted to take the court if not in correct uniform.
2. Non marking shoes must be worn.
3. Each team will have an alternate top. If there is a clash of colours, the 2nd nominated team will be required to change their top.
4. No jewellery is to be worn unless taped
Timing Regulations
Regular Rounds
• 2 X 20-minute halves per game
• Half time breaks – 2 minutes
• Game clock STOPS at ALL whistles in the
last 1 minute of both halves
• 2 Time Outs per Team, per Half
• 8 team fouls per half, bonus shots ≥ 9th
• Player fouls out of game on 5th personal foul
Final Rounds
• Above timing rules apply + Game clock STOPS for all whistles in last 2 minutes of 2nd half
• Time outs may be called at any time
• Drawn games – extra 5 min overtime periods until a winning result. Foul count continues and one extra time out in overtimes.
Eligibility for Finals
Players must play in 1 preliminary round and only play in one team, otherwise matches will be forfeited in which the player takes part
Fixture
Teams withdrawing after the fixture has been published on Play HQ will forfeit their entry fee
After the fixture has been published on Play HQ no alterations will be made without the approval of the Tournament Director / Committee
No changes or amendments to the above rules are granted unless written consent is obtained by the tournament committee no less than 48 hours prior to Tournament commencement.
The Maryborough Basketball Association Inc. deny any liability for any injury sustained by any person during the tournament.
All stadiums must be fitted with a thermometer.
On hot days, court temperature must be taken hourly whilst the stadium is in use and must be recorded in a permanent record kept at the stadium.
If the stadium is in sections, the temperature must be taken in each section.
When the court temperature reaches 30ºC the Venue Supervisor must consider implementing and where the court temperature reaches 35ºC, must implement the following timing rules:
• The referee must call an additional compulsory timeout in each quarter if no timeout has been called by half way through the quarter.
• When the court temperature reaches 40ºC games must be abandoned.
